Bản Giốc Waterfall is one of those places that takes you by surprise.
Standing in front of the falls, with the mist rising and the sound of crashing water all around, was something I won’t forget anytime soon. It’s massive and surrounded by rice fields and limestone cliffs.
There are boat tours available that take you close to the base of the waterfall. The ride was a bit bumpy, and I got a little soaked, but it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Nestled within the Dam Thuy commune, the falls are near the Phat Tich Pagoda, which is an essential stop on your visit. The pagoda is perched on a hill with views that stretch over the waterfall and river valley.

As you get closer to the base, you can hear the thundering roar of the water from a distance. While the water crashes down to its 200-meter drop, it creates a silvery stream that gives it its name.
What amazed me during my visit was the peaceful and serene vibe. The walk up is not too long, and you can easily climb the staircase and buy souvenirs on your journey to the top.
Once on top, there’s a small bridge overlooking the waterfall where you can take photos and breathe in the fresh mountain air.

The best part is its romantic history, as it was named after a romantic story that adds a magical touch to the place.

The closer you get to the base, the more you feel the sheer force of the water. It’s not the kind of waterfall you just admire from a distance or in a photo—you need to experience it.
What I liked most was how untamed it felt. There were no fences or paved paths, just nature flowing down its natural course.

Reaching the waterfall takes a little effort, but the ride is smooth, and you can enjoy the scenery along the way. When I visited, there weren’t too many people, which made the experience even better.
The base feels so calm and welcoming, with plenty of shaded paths and trees to relax and embrace nature. It’s the kind of place where you can just hang out and let time pass you by.
If you’re after something a little quieter and scenic, Pongour Waterfall is the one to see.

6. Ba Ho Waterfalls

The first pool is the easiest to reach and ideal for a quick dip. But if you’re up for a bit of climbing, the other two waterfalls are more secluded and worth the effort.
The best thing about the waterfalls was how the pools weren’t crowded and how there were no pathways built along the rocks. The rawness of the place makes the experience more authentic and nature-friendly.

However, the moment you reach the falls, it’s totally worth it. Water crashes down from around 50 meters high into a cool, misty pool which cools down the place.
I like that it’s not overly crowded, which makes my visit even more special, like I had stumbled into a secret only a few people knew about.
I spent time just sitting by the water, taking it all in. The air was cool and fresh, and the only sounds were nature at its finest.
