The Top 9 Tea Shops in Vietnam for When You’re in the Mood for a Soothing Sip

There’s no denying that when it comes to the kind of drink that soothes the soul, a cup of tea just knows how to hit the right spot. The comfort that comes with it invites you to slow down.

The thing is, Vietnam knows how to do it right. Maybe because it runs deep in the tradition and the whole process, from harvesting the leaves to brewing, is done thoughtfully and with so much effort — some are even tied to it spiritually.

And as a tea lover myself, this mission of checking out tea shops in Vietnam made me discover these gems that gave me the best tea experience I’ve ever had so far.

If you’re like me who finds happiness in a simple cup of tea, this list is for you.

1. Hien Minh Tea House – Hà Nội

Address: No. 13 P. Ngô Tất Tố, Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, Đống Đa, Hà Nội

Phone: +84942670513

Operating hours: Monday to Sunday 8:00 am – 10:00 pm

As a traditional tea house in Hà Nội, Hien Minh starts with processing high-quality tea leaves from Vietnamese ancient tea trees that have been carefully nurtured for years.

Buddhism plays a huge role in the tea house’s roots, and since the lotus flower is a powerful symbol in the religion, it’s the reason why lotus green tea is the signature offering here.

They’re particularly popular for their traditional tea ceremonies, making the tea experience more immersive for patrons.

Aside from the lotus tea, they also offer other options such as white tea, oolong tea, premium Snow Shan green tea, and more.

They also invite customers to join the Lotus Green Tea Workshop at the tea house, available in June or July, when the lotus flowers are in season.

Pro tip:

Hien Minh Tea House is very particular about the brewing method. To enjoy the best-tasting tea, water is best at 70°C, and you should steep the tea for at least two minutes.

For their tea offerings, they have various options from oolong and jasmine to herbal tea. Every product here is organic, locally sourced, and handmade — served on ceramicware handcrafted by the staff.

Pro tip:

If it’s your first time visiting the teahouse, try ordering the Vietnamese Tea Tasting Set. You can choose three varieties from their tea menu, and they’ll be served to you in individual teapots with cookies that pair well with the tea flavors.

Along the beachfront hubs in Nha Trang, Chakokoro is the place that matcha lovers seek because of their authentic and high-quality ceremonial-grade matcha.

Chakokoro sources their matcha from different cities in Japan, such as Kyoto and Fukuoka, offering many varieties of matcha such as Samidori, Okumidori, Asahi, and more.

Customers can pretty much customize their own matcha drink: thick-style (koicha), thin-style (usucha), latte-style, on ice, and more — it really depends on how rich and deep you want the matcha taste to be.

Pair it with the warabi mochi, which complements the earthy notes of matcha well.

In addition to matcha, Chakokoro also offers other Japanese teas like organic hojicha.

Pro tip:

Since Chakokoro uses pure matcha, the taste can be overwhelmingly bitter for some people. For first-timers, Chakokoro recommends blending it with milk or water to tone down the bitter and earthy taste.

Phone: +84988818289

Operating hours: Monday to Sunday 8:30 am – 6:00 pm

Everything in Kosala is made traditionally, from harvesting, drying, and brewing the perfect cup.

The tea menu here offers traditional Vietnamese flavors, including rare types, that are carefully selected by the owner himself, like the Dragon Bud White Tea (mountain-grown wild tea) and other tea leaves obtained from ancient tea trees.

The Dragon Bud White Tea, in particular, is a premium tea type in Vietnam. It comes from a rare tea tree that can only be found in remote mountains and forests.

It’s one of their bestsellers because it’s low in caffeine and has a different flowery aroma.

The owner works very hard to harvest these high-quality leaves in the mountain regions, even if it takes long hours of travel and rugged conditions. These leaves are then dried and preserved traditionally.

Pro tip:

Kosala recommends different brewing methods for each tea type. If you’re taking home packaged teas, one brewing tip is to not use tap or mineral water. Use purified or filtered water instead.

9. TEASPOON Coffee and Tearoom – Hồ Chí Minh

Teaspoon’s tea menu is pretty diverse. You’ll find everything from classic black and green teas to fruit-infused and caffeine-free options.

Plus, you can get a refill at no extra charge.

You can also find a selection of cakes and desserts to pair with your drink, including flan, macarons, cookies, and more.

Before ordering, the staff will encourage you to smell the teas to help you choose your preferred one.

Pro tip:

We recommend trying multiple steeps. The flavor of the tea is even deeper on the second or third steep.
