Best Martial Art in Hanoi: The Top 5 Gyms for All Levels

Discipline Variety: We examined the range of combat sports each facility offers. Having multiple training options under one roof helps students test different styles easily.

Coaching Expertise: Evaluating the instructors' backgrounds was a major priority. Trainers with real fighting experience and structured coaching methods yield much better student progression.

Facility Quality: The condition of the training mats and equipment directly impacts safety. We prioritized venues that maintain clean and well-ventilated workout spaces.

Accessibility and Scheduling: A good gym needs to accommodate busy professionals and temporary visitors. Centers with intuitive booking systems and extensive operating hours scored much higher.

Inclusivity: We checked if the gyms actively welcome foreigners and complete beginners. Friendly staff and English-speaking coaches make a significant difference for international trainees.

1. AGOGE

Address: 9 Thanh Cong Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi

Contact: 098-322-0287

Hours: Operates via schedule

Building real combat skills requires a solid foundation, and AGOGE operates with a unique philosophy inspired by ancient Spartan training.

Members gain unlimited access to their comprehensive multi-discipline programs, covering everything from boxing to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

During my time testing their grappling classes, I noticed the coaches were incredibly detail-oriented when breaking down complex submissions.

The methodology here relies heavily on sports science to optimize physical conditioning and mental resilience. You can expect a very structured path if you plan to progress toward competitive fighting.

The personalized coaching system also accommodates complete novices and seasoned athletes alike.

But because it functions as a specialized academy rather than a massive commercial fitness chain, the training community is notably smaller. This might feel limiting if you prefer a bustling atmosphere.

Additionally, advanced practitioners might find fewer high-level sparring partners in certain disciplines during off-peak hours.

Pros

  • Wide range of martial arts disciplines
  • Structured programs for all skill levels
  • Flexible membership with full class access
  • Organized training calendar
  • Both group and personal coaching available

Cons

  • Smaller overall training community
  • Fewer advanced sparring partners historically
  • Lacks general fitness chain amenities

Website:https://www.starkickboxingandfitness.com/

Address: 72 Xuan Dieu, Tay Ho, Hanoi

Contact: +84 359 533 586

Hours: Mon-Fri 07:00-21:00, Sat-Sun 08:00-17:00

Foreigners and travelers will find STAR Kickboxing and Fitness incredibly welcoming, thanks to its English-speaking staff and extensive schedule of over 30 weekly sessions. They also offer highly flexible, short-term training packages tailored for tourists.

The trainers are great too. They emphasize a holistic approach that integrates intense combat sports with general conditioning work. This setup works wonderfully if your primary goal is overall physical health rather than preparing for a professional fight.

Another great plus is the flexibility. You can easily switch between Muay Thai fundamentals and recovery yoga within the same week.

On top of that, booking your heavy bag session or yoga class is seamless through their dedicated mobile application.

The main drawback is their location in Tay Ho, which requires a bit of a commute if you are staying near the Old Quarter. Their multidisciplinary model also means the curriculum is less specialized than that of a dedicated fight camp.

Pros

  • Over 30 weekly class options available
  • English-speaking coaches and staff
  • Convenient app-based booking system
  • Short-term drop-in packages for travelers
  • Inclusive youth and adult programs

Cons

  • Location is far from central Hanoi
  • Less specialized than pure fight camps

Helping you achieve your fitness/martial arts goals

During my 2-month stay in Hanoi, I attended this gym’s boxing classes 3-4 times a week. It was a great way to learn martial arts and sharpen my fitness. The staff are very friendly and serious about helping you achieve your fitness/martial arts goals. Perfect for foreigners. If I ever come back to Hanoi, I’ll be attending here again!

You feel great after the trainin

I was in Hanoi for a few weeks on holiday and decided to try martial arts for the first time. It was a decision that I am glad I made.

My instructors, Phong and Phu, were amazing. They didn’t make the classes too easy or hard, providing a workout that engaged cardio and the whole body. You feel great after the training.

The facility was excellent, equipped with showers and towels. Overall, it was fantastic. I’m now hooked on martial arts, and I will definitely continue learning it when I return to my home country!

Hours: Mon-Fri 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Sat-Sun 6:00 AM – 9:00 PM

Individuals seeking a premium facility will appreciate California Fitness for its expansive Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) inspired Kickfit classes and high-end wellness amenities.

The center combines basic striking techniques with intense cardiovascular workouts to help members improve their overall conditioning.

This venue functions as a massive wellness hub rather than a traditional dojo. You gain access to modern weightlifting equipment and dozens of group programs alongside your combat fitness routines.

One of our researchers actually trains here regularly and loves relaxing in the sauna right after a grueling pad-work session.

Another great plus is the extended operating hours. It makes it simple to squeeze in a workout around a demanding office job.

However, several members have experienced frustrating administrative issues regarding membership cancellations and billing transparency. Front desk communication can also be inconsistent during peak hours.

Pros

  • Premium facility with luxury amenities
  • Long operating hours for busy schedules
  • Broad selection of group fitness classes
  • Modern gym equipment included

Cons

  • Difficulty with membership cancellations
  • Inconsistent front desk customer service
  • Pricing structure lacks transparency

Modern, spacious and well equipped

A fantastic gym located in downtown Hanoi! I came here after my hotel’s fitness centre was unexpectedly closed, they allowed me use of the facilities with a free trial, which was so convenient. The gym is modern, spacious and well equipped with everything you need for a great workout. I would highly recommend it if you’re visiting as a tourist and need a space to train!

Address: 3rd Floor, No. 298 Vo Chi Cong, Xuan La, Tay Ho, Hanoi

Contact: 091 747 8868

Hours: Mon-Sun: 05:30 AM to 9:30 PM

PTS Kick-Fitness stood out for its focus on transforming physiques. They seamlessly blend traditional combat sports with intensive body-conditioning programs.

The coaching staff excels at guiding complete novices through their first strikes safely. They structure their packages to prioritize distinct goals, such as weight loss or confidence building.

The facility spans a massive 1200 square meters, providing dedicated zones for heavy bag work and full-scale strength training. Members also enjoy unique recovery amenities like a four-season indoor swimming pool.

We also appreciate the seven-day free trial they offer. It’s a smart way for customers to test the waters before committing financially.

That said, the gym operates as a large chain, so it lacks the intimate atmosphere of an old-school fight club.

Pros

  • Massive modern facility with distinct zones
  • Indoor heated swimming pool available
  • Excellent guided programs for beginners
  • Seven-day free trial for new members

Cons

  • Lacks the intimate feel of a small dojo

Customer service is dedicated

The pool is clean, the equipment is modern, there are many sports to participate in, the coaches are enthusiastic and attentive, and the customer service is dedicated. I will definitely be training diligently! 🥰 …

5. Taekwondo Kids Việt Nam

Website:https://taekwondokids.vn/

Address: 83 Vũ Trọng Phụng, Thanh Xuân, Hà Nội (Head office – Hapulico)

Contact: 0902.259.698

Hours: Operates via schedule

Parents looking to build their child’s confidence should consider Taekwondo Kids. It’s a specialized academy focusing entirely on youth martial arts and moral development.

The head coaches bring valuable international competition experience to the mats. Plus, they follow a structured curriculum that ties physical kicking techniques directly to character-building exercises.

Students also stay motivated by preparing for regular belt promotion exams held multiple times a year. Kids who show exceptional promise even get the chance to travel for regional tournaments.

On top of that, they maintain strong partnerships with local schools to make after-school training highly accessible for young students.

The obvious limitation is that this program strictly accepts children, leaving parents without a way to train alongside their kids. It also focuses exclusively on Taekwondo, so it will not suit families looking for diverse grappling or striking disciplines.

Pros

  • Specialized curriculum designed for children
  • Focuses heavily on discipline and character
  • Regular belt promotion testing
  • Opportunities for tournament competition

Cons

  • Does not offer adult training classes
  • Limited strictly to Taekwondo techniques

My child enjoys practicing and is in good health

The center provides excellent training; my child enjoys practicing and is in good health. The center organizes very good belt promotion exams, which makes the children love Taekwondo and motivates them to strive for improvement. Thank you, Taekwondo Kids Vietnam Center!
